Step into history and uncover the hidden stories of Huntington Castle, one of Ireland’s most atmospheric historic homes. On the day of the Garden Festival talk, guided tours of the castle will run hourly from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. (last tour 4 p.m.), offering visitors and non-gardening partners a rare chance to explore this lived-in family home. In this, the 400th year of its foundation, wander through elegant drawing rooms, atmospheric halls and intimate living spaces, all while hearing tales of the Esmonde family—past and present. Admire Aubusson tapestries, striking ancestral portraits and exquisite furnishings, and don’t miss the remarkable conservatory, where a cutting from the legendary Hampton Court “Great Vine” still thrives. One of the highlights of the tour is exclusive access to the Temple of the Goddess, located deep within the castle’s evocative dungeon.
Outside, the gardens at Huntington Castle offer a peaceful and inspiring backdrop to your visit. Originally laid out in the 17th century, the gardens have evolved into a captivating mix of formal planting, stately lawns and ancient trees. Stroll through the French linden walk, explore the rose garden, or simply enjoy the sense of serenity that permeates this historic landscape.
Before or after your tour, take time to relax at the tearooms, where delicious homemade treats are served on vintage china. Whether you’re after a buttery scone, a rich slice of cake, or simply a cup of Badger & Dodo coffee, it’s the perfect spot to unwind.
Don’t forget to visit the gift shop, featuring a handpicked selection of Irish-made crafts, gourmet foods, and thoughtful keepsakes. For the ultimate escape, why not consider an overnight stay in one of the castle’s elegant rooms or self-catering cottages?
